Best Batteries for Sony Mirrorless Cameras
One of the main reasons I switched to Sony back in 2017 was there superior battery technology. Other batteries, including Sony’s previous battery weren’t up to the task of modern camera energy requirements. Then Sony released the NP-FZ100 battery which changed the game in my opinion. A reasonably small battery that packs a punch and generally gets me close to one and a half hours of video recording time on a single charge.
Sony’s battery is great, but now there are some really good affordable options in the aftermarket space allowing you to shoot longer for less. Add in USB-C charging as a relatively standard feature and you’ll be shooting all day long and packing less chargers around with you.
Here are my picks for top aftermarket batteries for my Sony Mirrorless camera.
These batteries are compatible with the following Sony models and any other model that uses the NP-FZ100 battery.
A6600, A6700, A9, A9 III, A7S III, A7R III, A7C, A7C II, A7 III, A7 IV, A7R IV, A7S III, FX30, FX3, FX30B, A1 II, ZV-E1
Sony NP-FZ100 Original
This isn’t an aftermarket battery, but I don’t think it would be fair not to include the original NP-FZ100 battery. This one sets the standard, and there’s no denying Sony quality. The one thing the aftermarket batteries best this one on is USB-C charging which is super handy in a pinch.

Smallrig NP-FZ100 Battery
Smallrig has become a dependable brand name in aftermarket camera accessories and this battery was one of the first to introduce USB-C charging. My experience with Smallrig has been positive and I don’t have a problem buying from them as an off-brand solution.

Smallrig D-Tap Dummy for Sony NP-FZ100
If you want to tap into a V-Lock style battery to power your camera this is a useful solution. You do have to either remove the battery door or leave it open to use this though. These days Sony cameras can charge via USB-C, so I would be more inclined to run power from a V-Lock battery via its USB-C port to the camera than use one of these, but not all V-Locks have a USB output.

Tilta NP-FZ100 Battery
This is my favourite aftermarket battery for my Sony mirrorless cameras. While Tilta is similar to Smallrig, they seem to do the aesthetic styling a bit better, and I love their USB-C multi-battery charging case.

Tilta Charging Station
As a travelling camera person this is such a game changer. Charge 4 batteries at once by USB-C? What?? Rather than dragging a bunch of clunky chargers around this one does quadruple duty in a small form factor. Perfect for the photographer or videographer on the move.
